A warning was released by the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) on Thursday, November 30 that Al Qaeda threatens to attack "online stock market and banking services."
Cause for worry in the industry? It doesn't seem so. The Department of Homeland Security indicates that the threat was issued in the interests of extreme caution, and DHS staff have pointed out that the report issued to banking and other relevant industry stakeholders was a routine report.
Nevertheless, such reports are opportunities for all networked offices to brush up on their security procedures. Having backup plans, preparing for public relations fallout, and keeping US-CERT contact information at the ready are a start.
